Okay… So I believe Dolly Diamond is already high on a pedestal of mine BUT when I found out about AND saw ‘Parton Me’ (A Dolly Parton song show) I was like ‘Sign me the f*ck up bi*tches , I’m coming!’
Dolly is back at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2019 with her new show, afore-mentioned, and it is super star, next level, brilliant. Her raspy voice and comedy one-liners are sensational. BUT it is her audience interaction that draw us kids in. She has a connection with the people in the seats that keeps us drooling for more 9-5 (pun intended) and even later.
Diamond gave us all the faves, Apple Jack, Tennessee Mountain Home and Nine to Five BUT Coat Of Many Colours gave us life and purpose.
Backed by the very awesome Gospo Collective with the stunning vocal prowess of Charmaine Jones this show is EPIC. If I may, just mention, ‘I Will Always Love You’ was just gorgeous and I kept thinking ‘would Whitney be proud?’ and, you know what, she would be applauding and be like ‘Girl, Sister, You Werk!’.
AND you don’t even need to be a fan of Parton’s work, it is basically very fabulous cabaret.
Diamond knows how to do a show, keep it tight and keep us involved. She is engaging and makes you feel like you personally had slept with her. Cannot wait to see what is next in-store for us fans, but if she did ANYTHING with THAT unique voice I would totally be there.
Missed ‘Islands In The Stream’ and ‘Baby I’m Burning’ but it is only an hour and Dolly’s catalogue is longggggggg.
Wrap up: Delicious. Delightful. Dolly.
