In 1988 Ute Lemper had a THREE HOUR conversation with the legend Marlene Dietrich. This show, Rendevouz with Merlene, relives that phone call.
Adelaide Cabaret Festival is synonymous for bringing the best of worlds cabaret/performers to the festival that is famed and renown across our vast globe.
In this show, an Australian Premiere AND Adelaide Exclusive, and held at Thebarton Theatre to a SOLD OUT house, Ute dazzles and seduces the audience with song and story which covers Dietrich’s life from her Berlin years to her brilliant period of Burt Bacharach collaborations.
Lempers craft is evident and she capture the essence of Marlene as she takes you back to the vintage years. Her voice is sublime and she personifies stage goddess in everyway plus more.
The punters were mesmerized and hung on every spoken and sung word that flowed with accent from the actress/singer’s lips.
The quartet, led by pianist Vana Gierig was sensational and supported the divine Lemper as the perfect accompaniment. Top marks.
The songs were wide ranging as indeed is Marlene’s catalogue. From ‘Where have all the Flowers gone’ through to Bob Dylan’s ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’. Ute surely will be back, if you haven’t caught one of her shows yet, I insist, next time, get a seat for the one and only, original Ute Lemper.
Bravo Adelaide Cabaret Festival for bringing quality XO
