Designer. Creator. Advocate.

Portrait of Markus Hamence

Markus Hamence is an Adelaide-based interior designer with a rockstar edge, a creative director who treats a workspace like a stage and the people in it like the performance that matters most.

His career spans the design studio, the lecture theatre and the retail floor. Today he curates a tight, considered range of office seating. Each piece is chosen not for the catalogue, but for the way it holds a room together and supports the bodies and ideas within it.

Design should inspire. Furniture should support. Together, they should transform the way we work.

Design Philosophy

Spaces That Inspire.

Great design is never decoration for its own sake. It is the deliberate shaping of how a space makes us feel, and of what becomes possible inside it. Markus designs for the moment a room stops being a backdrop and starts to inspire the people within it.

The Approach

Design. Productivity. Well-Being.

Three pillars that guide every space and every piece in the range.

01

Design

Space shapes behaviour. A considered room invites focus, conversation and ease. Design is the quiet architecture of how a day unfolds.

02

Productivity

Furniture should support the work, never interrupt it. The right chair disappears beneath you, leaving only the task and the energy to meet it.

03

Well-Being

How we sit, move and feel at work matters. Ergonomics, light and material come together in service of the person at the centre of the space.

Background

A practitioner, and a teacher.

Markus lectures in interior design at TAFE, shaping the next generation of South Australian designers, a role that keeps his own practice sharp, curious and grounded in fundamentals.

His retail and design background includes time with respected names such as Louis Bond and BlackCherry, where he honed an eye for materials, craft and the quiet details that separate good rooms from memorable ones.

Today that experience informs the range he curates, and every chair earns its place.

Manifesto

The Markus Hamence Design Manifesto

Design is not about filling space. It is about creating feeling.

I believe every environment should tell a story, evoke emotion and leave people changed by the experience of being within it.

I design for connection: between people and place, nature and architecture, beauty and wellbeing.

Nature is my greatest collaborator. It teaches rhythm, balance, texture, resilience and the art of evolving with intention. The natural world reminds us that design is never static; it grows, adapts and breathes alongside us.

I believe interiors should nurture the human spirit. They should inspire creativity, encourage conversation, support restoration and invite moments of pause in an increasingly fast-moving world.

Plants are not accessories. They are living design elements that bring vitality, movement and authenticity into our spaces. They reconnect us with something essential and remind us that beauty is most powerful when it is alive.

I reject design that exists purely for appearance. True design has purpose. It considers how people feel, interact, gather, dream and belong.

I believe luxury is not defined by excess, but by intention. It is found in natural light, thoughtful materials, meaningful objects, layered experiences and spaces that encourage us to be fully present.

Design should celebrate individuality. It should never be dictated solely by trends, but informed by personal narratives, memories, aspirations and a sense of place.

I believe creativity extends beyond interiors. It lives in theatre, music, gardens, art and storytelling. The most compelling spaces borrow from all disciplines and become immersive experiences rather than simply rooms.

My work is guided by curiosity, optimism and the understanding that beautiful spaces have the capacity to transform how we think, how we feel and how we live.

I design environments that are restorative, expressive and deeply human.

Because great design is not simply seen.

It is experienced.

It is remembered.

And above all, it makes people feel alive.
